Major Bantam Girls Gold capture 4th Place at Provincial Championships

This past weekend, the Major Bantam girls participated in the OBA championship tournament. Our first game was on Friday night, against Lindsay Wildcats. In previous tournaments we had won against them once, and lost to them once. All of us girls were very excited to play  in this game and we came out on fire. It was a close game all the way until the end, we worked very hard to stay in the lead. Everyone proved that they wanted to win by making free throws, and playing great defence. Our hard work payed off and we won by 5 points. Our second game was against Upper Canada Ice, who we had never heard of. All we knew is that there was one girl over 6 feet who we thought would be a challenge. Everyone was playing unbelievably incredible defence and we shut that girl down. We were owning the boards and we kept them to under ten points throughout the whole game! At the end of Saturday night we finished 1st in our pool. In our semi final game on Sunday morning versus Center Wellington Celtics, we were quite confident that we could win, but CW came out tough. As hard as we tried, and as much as we wanted to win… We didn’t seem to want it as much as they did. The ten point spread between us, seemed like a mountain to overcome. Our shots weren’t falling and we couldn’t manage to chip away at the score. Losing that game led us to play the bronze medal game. Once again, we played against Upper Canada. It was really tough for us girls to keep our heads up after such a rough loss to CW earlier that morning. Upper Canada came out strong. Their defence was intense and intimidating toward us, which caused too many turnovers on our part. No one was shooting smart shots and the game got out of hand, we had 3 players injured and it was hard for us to keep our heads in the game. It was a tragic end to our season. Ill never forget this group of girls and coaches. I think what we all are trying to wrap our heads around now, is that we may not all be together next season. Its hard that we have to leave such great friends and coaches. But all good things eventually have to come to an end. I cant wait to play again next season.
